We are seeking a Tobacconist to serve as the primary host and subject-matter expert for our premium cigar offerings. This role delivers an exceptional retail and lounge experience by guiding guests through our walk-in humidor, pairing cigars with fine spirits, maintaining optimal humidor environmental conditions and upholding brand standards. The ideal candidate blends deep passion and knowledge for handmade cigars with refined hospitality and meticulous retail management skills.
Guest Hospitality & Consultation
- Tailored Recommendations: Warmly greet members and guests, guiding them through the walk-in humidor to select cigars tailored to their taste profile, experience level, time availability and price preference.
- Spirit & Beverage Pairings: Collaborate with the bar team to offer informed recommendations for pairing cigars with bourbon, scotch, wine or coffee offerings.
- Cut & Light Service: Perform formal cut-and-light ritual service for guests upon request, utilizing proper torch, cedar strip or match techniques.
- Private Event & Lounge Support: Assist with hosting educational tastings, brand manufacturer events and private member lounge functions.
Humidor & Inventory Management
- Climate Control Monitoring: Continuously monitor, log and maintain humidor humidity (68%-72%) and temperature (65-70 F) parameters using digital hygrometers.
- Stock & Merchandising: Receive, inspect, rotation-stock and visually merchandise cigar boxes, bundles and accessories (cutters, lighters, humidors, ashtrays) according to brand display standards.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct daily quality checks for wrapper defects, proper construction, mold prevention and dryness.
- Inventory Control: Conduct routine physical inventory audits, track slow-moving stock and notify management of reorder points for core lines and limited editions.
Operations & Regulatory Compliance
- Age Verification: Strictly enforce local, state and federal age restrictions (21+) by verifying valid government-issued photo IDs prior to any transaction or humidor entry.
- POS & Digital Transactions: Operate the point-of-sale system to execute cashless digital transactions (credit/debit cards, contactless payments), manage gift cards and handle member account billing with precision.
- Lounge Sanitation & Aesthetics: Maintain pristine cleanliness inside the walk-in humidor, retail displays and surrounding lounge seating areas, ensuring ashtrays and accessories are regularly sanitized.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 1-3 years of experience in retail sales, upscale hospitality, fine dining or luxury goods.
- Product Knowledge: Solid foundational knowledge of major cigar growing regions (Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Honduras, Cuba), wrapper types, vitolas and construction methods.
- Customer Service: Exceptional interpersonal communication skills with a refined, hospitable demeanor and team-first mindset focused on deliverable hospitality.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, walk back and forth between humidor and lounge, lift boxes up to 30 lbs and work in a cigar-smoke environment.
- Certification (Preferred): Certified Retail Tobacconist (CRT) or Certified Sales Tobacconist (CST) credentials from Tobacconist University, or willingness to obtain within 90 days of employment.
